Snow plow insurance
Contractors Insurance No Comments

Last week was unseasonably hot for mid-October across the northeast (which may have left some wishing that they had not put their AC units in storage). But, either fortunately or unfortunately, those temperatures are not here to stay. Over the next few weeks we will be entering the transition period between winter and fall which means it is about to get a lot colder and, possibly, a lot snowier. And when that first snowfall arrives we will rely on our snowplow contractors to keep our roads snow-free and safe. So, if you are in the snow removal business we would like to thank you and we would also like to remind you to make sure that you have the right insurance coverage for your business, for the winter.

What is snow plow insurance?

As a snow removal contractor we expect that your snow plow is the backbone of your business. Without it, re-distributing snow and clearing roads would be nearly impossible (at least at the rate you are used to). You can avoid that backbreaking experience by acquiring snow plow insurance. The policy combines a few of our most common policies to ensure that you are adequately covered in the event of a work-related injury or if your company’s vehicle or equipment are accidentally damaged.

Why do you need snow plow insurance?

Snow plow insurance is required by law in most states (it also may be a stipulation in your snow removal contract). So, if you make your living by clearing snow for others (residential or commercial) you will need some form of snow plow insurance. Listed below are a few of the policies that you should consider including in your snow plow insurance policy.

  • Workers Compensation Insurance

Workers compensation is also required by law and will protect your employees in the event of a work-related injury. It will cover any medical bills associated with that injury and will provide them with up to two-thirds of their annual income until they can return to work.

  • Commercial Auto Insurance

As a snow removal contractor you probably rely on your vehicle to get the job done. Commercial auto insurance will ensure that any costs associated with your damaged vehicle are covered. That means you can spend less time worrying about how to replace your vehicle and you can focus more on keeping your business moving forward during the winter.
